DISCUSSION

Identify professional, state organizations that have helped you in your internship.
Give a brief explanation. Remember to exclude personal or special names and titles.

There are definitely several professional and state organizations that have contributed towards my ongoing internship. One that stands out is the (Texas  Education Agency),TEA http://www.tea.state.tx.us/. This agency has allowed me access to numerous publications, information and sources that have helped me throughout my courses, my action research project as well as my internship. In addition, TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) has also been a major source towards my internship.
This organization has offered numerous conferences, training sessions and workshops that I have been able to attend and learn from throughout my courses.
Furthermore, this past July I was selected to be part of a leadership program that will continue until July 2012. The opportunities that will arise as this program unfolds should be worth all the time that will be put into it. Other members of the group come from throughout the state of Texas and will be working with me on several projects as well as visiting several schools throughout the state.
In working with parent groups, what has been your greatest surprise?
Remember to exclude personal or special names and titles.

One of my greatest surprises with working with parents happened when two parents got too competitive with each other. This happened with elementary level parents because it seems that they tend to get more involved at that level. At this particular occasion, two moms became so critical of  each other that they both wanted to take over the parent group. This caused  a division with the entire organization. The two moms finally took their complaints to the school board. It is sad when some adults let their emotions get the best of them and then the children have to pay the circumstances. In this case, one of the moms actually ended up pulling her child out and leaving the school.
